The Minor Bantams have taken a 3 points to 1 lead over Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs in the Alliance Championship over the weekend.
The opener got going in St. Marys on Saturday. Both teams displayed some great hockey throughout the contest. The Lakers Bayley Boyes impressed his hometown fans with a 3 goal performance. Jacob Middleton scored the winner in overtime with a low slap shot from the point on a screened goalie. Kent Taylor was solid in net turning away many Cheif’s attacks.
The second game on Sunday was in Strathroy. The Bantams dominated the play but had trouble scoring on the Chiefs' goalie. Elgin Middlesex took a 2-1 lead in the second period. Both of their goals were on breakaways from misplayed pucks. The Lakers mounted the pressure and were rewarded late in the period as Nathan Templeman tied the score and sent the game into overtime. Nothing was decided over the 5 minute overtime. Daniel Dekoning was great in net.
