Larder Larceny! - Lakers Even in Semi Final Play
After losing the 1st game of the series 7-2, the Huron Perth Lakers Major Bantams fought back to take the 2nd game, 2 -1 on 18 Feb 2012 at the St. Mary’s Rock rink.

In a game that bore no similarity to the opening one, the Lakers and Elgin Middlesex Chiefs played a close checking, hard hitting style of playoff hockey. Neither team was in the giving mood other than to exchange unpleasantries and distain for one another.

The Chief’s opened up the scoring in the 1st on a shot which got by Lakers’ goalie, Ben Larder. It was the only goal they would get as Larder reached deep into his skill repertoire to thwart the Chiefs at every opportunity. As the old saying goes… you have to be good to be lucky, and lucky to be good. Ben Larder was both and more as he committed grand larceny, robbing the Chiefs to keep the Lakers in the game.

The Lakers would get on the board and tie the game early in the 2nd period on a fine effort by Jamie Huber, assisted by Kenny Huether and Cullen Mercer. The period closed out at a 1 – 1 tie going into the flood.

The Lakers would press the Chiefs relentlessly and capitalized on a turnover while on the penalty kill as Carson Brookshaw would strip the puck from the Chiefs and roar down ice to lift a beauty of a backhander over the Chiefs goalie and score short handed at the 9:00 min mark of the 3rd. The Lakers would come close to an empty net goal, missing the Chief’s net by inches, making the final score 2 – 1 for the Huron Perth Lakers.

Play resumes with game 3 in Komoka, on Tues, 21 Feb 2012.
