Minor Peewees had a tough weekend but rebounded against Kitchener Wed night
Written by Ron Pryce

The Minor Peewees  had a tough weekend against London and Waterloo but rebounded Wednesday night against Kitchener.

Last Saturday the boys travelled to London for a match which saw the London Jr. Knights keep the Lakers off the scoreboard taking the game 3-0. Hardy Westman was again very busy in goal and did a great job holding London to just 3.

Against Waterloo the next day the boys would have a better game, but the outcome was a 4–3 loss. Midway through the 2nd period, Sheldon Pryce put the Lakers on the board knocking in a rebound from Kayden Schooley and Eric Roes. Into the 3rd with Waterloo leading 2-1, some great defence work by Tate Gaylor gave Coleson Fischer the time and space to go end to end, then getting the puck to Zac McCann who scored to tie the match at 2. Then for a brief meltdown and bad bounces, Waterloo would score 2 goals in .20 seconds to go ahead 4-2. With 6 minutes left the boys would try to rally a comeback starting with Connor Aarts who kept the puck in the offensive zone passing it to Schooley who put it on net and Tyler Hotson on the doorstep would find the back of the net making it 4-3. The Lakers did everything they could to try and tie this match in the last few minutes but Waterloo held on for the victory. Dylan Kints did a great job in net as he was kept busy in this game! Looking forward to the rematch this week as the Lakers did outplay Waterloo for most of this game !!

Wednesday night Kitchener would come to town as both teams would be looking for their 1st 2 points. Kitchener came out flying in this match keeping the play in the Lakers end for most of the 1st period. Then with the game still a scoreless tie, with 2:27 left in the 2nd, Kayden Hoggarth would pass to Aarts in the slot who took a great hard shot leaving a rebound for Blake Wideman to put home on his backhand to give the team a 1–0 lead. With the game going end to end, Kitchener desperately trying to tie, with 3:46 left in the 3rd, Gaylor would keep the puck in the offensive zone passing it to McCann on the side boards who would then pass to Blake Boreham out front who scored to give the Lakers a 2-0 lead. But Kitchener would fight back .15 sec later to make the game 2-1. With 2:07 left the Lakers would get a bounce their way in the neutral zone with Connor Aarts taking the puck and gaining Kitchener’s blue line, passing it to Blake Wideman who would pass to Mason Weber on the doorstep to score and regain the 2 goal lead. The Lakers could taste the victory as they played the last 2 minutes in Kitchener’s end never giving them a chance to come back!
