Minor Peewees Victorious on Laker Day

Written by Ron Pryce

Cambridge came to town to face a pretty hot Laker squad and even though Cambridge would score 1st at 12:01 of the 1st period, the boys would take the game over from there. At 5:49 still in the 1st, Sheldon Pryce at the top of the crease would find the back of the net assisted by Eric Roes and Kayden Schooley. Then 1 minute later Zac McCann steels the puck and goes in all alone and snipes one past the Cambridge goalie. Still in the 1st at the 2 minute mark, Mason Weber scores on a nice feed from Blake Wideman and Kaden Hoggarth to give the Lakers a 3-1 lead after 1 period.

In the 2nd the boys would continue to take it to the Hawks and at 4:57 Coleson Fischer with a great pinch at the blue line sends the puck in behind the net where Sheldon Pryce was quick to grab and pass to Eric Roes in the slot who scored on the one timer.  At 3:59  Zac McCann would snipe his 2nd of the game on another beauty passing play by Tyler Hotson and Blake Boreham. The Hawks would get one more of their own before the end of the 2nd but the Lakers would take a 5 – 2 lead into the 3rd.

The Lakers played a well conserved 3rd controlling most of the play and not allowing Cambridge back into the match. To finish out the scoring in this game, Sheldon Pryce would get his 2nd of the game. A duplicate goal to the 1st one of the game assisted again by Roes and Schooley and a final score of 6 – 2.  Great work on the back end by Tate Gaylor, Connor Aarts, Callan Ferguson, Jack Robinson, Dakota Coultes and  Coleson Fischer.  And at the very back end closing the door for the win was Dylan Kints.

On Sunday the  Lakers would travel to Brantford to take on the 99ers. It was a nice drive to see the new Gretzky monument out in front of the Gretzky Complex .  The game however  was dominated by Brantford where they would out battle the Lakers all over the ice.  The boys will be ready for the rematch against the 99ers  on home ice.  Goals this game from Kaden Hoggarth  putting home a rebound from Mason Weber and Blake Wideman.  Weber would score as well on a nice feed from Ferguson.  Pryce would  find the back of the net in the dying minutes of this game assisted by Roes and Schooley. The boys would suffer their 1st loss in a few weeks ending with a score of 7 – 3.

The Minor Peewees have managed to battle their way to the top of the East division holding onto a 1 point lead over Waterloo!  Great team work boys !!
