U11 Lakers cap amazing season with Alliance Championship!!!!
The U11 Huron Perth Lakers finished off an amazing season
with an exciting 3-2 victory over the Elgin Middlesex Canucks to take the
2024/25 Alliance Championship!!
Alliance Hockey couldn't have been happier with how the
championship unfolded on the weekend with the leagues two top teams through the
regular season and playdowns squaring off in the final. the game would be
a rematch of last years championship final and the rubber in a series which saw
the two teams each take two games through the season.
The final started slow as both teams felt each other out, neither willing to
take too much of a chance with the first period ending at 0-0. Mid way
through the second EMC would receive a penalty shot as a Laker player covered
the puck in the crease while on the penalty kill. The Canuck player would
make no mistake and open the scoring getting the EMC crowd buzzing. HPL
would answer back on the power play a few minutes later knotting the score at 1
only to see EMC reply with an even strength tally to take the lead back.
The ever resilient Lakers didn't quit and after some relentless pressure around
the Canucks net would receive a penalty shot of their own which they would
convert on tying the game at 2 heading into the final frame.
Both teams at this point were exhausted after a long weekend of hard fought
hockey. Overtime loomed as both teams struggled to get any significant
offensive pressure. The refs put the whistles away and were letting the
boys battle it out but an obvious too many men penalty with just under six
minutes left gave the Lakers a chance to take the lead. They would
convert on the power play with just over five minutes to play. EMC would
pull their goalie and push the pace trying for the tying goal but on this day
the Lakers would hold on and take the championship by a score of 3-2!!!
