Major Atoms Win Big!!
The Huron Perth Lakers AAA Major Atoms traveled to Brantford on January 4th to take on the Brantford 99’ers in an Alliance league game. These teams are evenly matched but it was the Lakers who had more quickness and finish around the net on this night. The first period started with the Lakers applying pressure in the Brantford end zone. They were rewarded early as Quinton Haddock scored from Gregory Swan and Jared McCann. A couple of minutes later Jared McCann made it 2-0 with assists going to Bayley Boyes and Ryan Stulp-Jacobson. The 2nd period started with the Lakers killing off a penalty. Brantford hemmed the Lakers in their zone and finally were able to solve goalie Kent Taylor to make the score 2-1. The Lakers restored their 2 goal lead when Ryan Stulp-Jacobson chipped the puck to Boyes who then found Nathan Templeman who ripped a shot into the net. Two shifts later Derek Elliott and Haddock out hustled the defense and set up Alex Peters who in turn let go a blast from the blue line which found the back of the net. Late in the 2nd period Templeman picked up a pass from Stulp-Jacobson and banked a shot into the net to make the score 5-1. The third period was fairly even territorially. Lakers goalie Taylor was called upon to make several good saves to keep the momentum with the Lakers. Once again Elliott showed his skating speed and made a nice shot to record an unassisted goal. Templeman completed his hat trick on a fine passing play from Connor Shaw and Maverick Petrie making the final score 7-1 in favour of the Lakers. The defensive unit of Stulp-Jacobson, Peters, Garrett James and Carter Stewart played a good game keeping the fast skating 99’ers in check. The Lakers now play in London on Feb.6th against the Elgin Middlesex Chiefs and then in Clinton on Jan. 7th at 4:30pm against the Kitchener Rangers.
