Lakers Major Atoms Earn Exciting Tie
The Huron Perth Lakers AAA Major Atoms played host to their Alliance league rivals from Brantford on January 14th in Clinton.

The Brantford 99’ers carried most of the play in the first period and led the game 2-0 as the period came to a close.

The 2nd period was played more evenly with each team recording a goal. Jared McCann and Keigan Goetz applied some great fore checking and finally pushed the puck to Maverick Petrie in front of the 99’ers net. Petrie out worked two Brantford defenders then slid the puck under the net minder for a well deserved goal. The 2nd period ended with the Lakers behind 3-1.

The third period was a different story as the Lakers found their skating legs. The Lakers started to push the play towards the Brantford zone right from the start of the 3rd period. A penalty took the momentum away from the Lakers and the Brantford team recorded their 4th goal. Minute’s later goalie Kent Taylor made back to back saves to keep the game within reach for his team mates. With just over three minutes to play Nathan Templeman took control of the game. Bayley Boyes made a super pass to Templeman who made the score 4-2. Nineteen seconds Quinton Haddock made a smart play to chip the puck to line mate Derek Elliott in the neutral zone. Elliott made a heads up cross ice pass to Templeman who went in and buried his shot to close the score to 4-3. With two minutes left in the game Alex Peters intercepted a Brantford clearing pass at the blue line. Peters feathered a pass to Goetz who directed a shot on the Brantford goal. Templeman rammed the rebound in to record the hat trick and make the final score 4-4. It was noted by many fans from both teams that this was a very well officiated game.

Next up for the Lakers is the Preston International tournament during the January 19th weekend.
