Minor Atoms Take Their Competitive Skills To The Next Level
Minor Atoms Are Striving For Excellence

The Minor Atom team have one thing on their mind, compete with confidence. Traveling to Hamilton on Saturday I knew the boys were ready to play the top place team from watching them do very well last weekend in the Blue Line Tournament. The Toronto Jr Canadians beat us in over time in the semi finals 3-2 and ended up winning the championship 3-0 playing Waterloo.

Cody Treble scored the 1st goal assisted by Jacob Rooke and Will Thibeault in the 2nd period. Hamilton tied the score up with :03 seconds left in the period. The game was tied 1-1 with 3:56 remaining in the 3rd period when Hamilton scored on a power play goal that Brennan Stapleton made an excellent effort to try to stop it from dribbling over the goal line. With two more Lakers in the penalty box, the mighty Reps scored the safety. The Lakers out shot Hamilton 33 to 25. The line of Noah Kuno, Tanner Hertel and Ben Derrough skated circles around the Hamilton Reps in the offensive zone pounding them with aggressive pressure and scoring opportunities but Hertel got shut down by the Reps goal tender. Baily Paquette played his game - fighting off his teams penalty minutes and making those smooth saves. Our six defence: Evan Moorehead, Chad Treble, Eric Charlebois, Bradley Kraemer, Quinton Maddock and Brennan Stapleton played very well. Mitchell Newson played his best game of the year and his line mates: Justin Beuermann and Scott Chisholm did a great job backchecking and attacking the Hamilton Reps.

On Sunday, the Lakers played the Windsor Jr Spitfires and came away with a 6-5 win. Mitchell Newson exploded out of his shell by scoring 2 goals, the first assisted by Scott Chisholm and his second assisted by Will Thibeault and Brennan Stapleton. Noah Kuno scored and made several vicious attempts but got hauled down by the Spitfires. Linemates Tanner Hertel and Ben Derrough picked up the assist. Brennan Stapleton went on a rush from the neutral zone and scored on his own rebound because he went hard to the net (Justin Beuermann assisted). Beuermann 10 minutes later picks up a rebound goal assisted by Jacob Rooke. Liam Shore, our AP player, did a great job in net in playing his first game for the Lakers this year as he made key saves between the pipes. Baily Paquette played the last few minutes left in the game to give Liam Shore a break. Will Thibeault scored the winner assisted by Tanner Hertel as the Lakers beat Windsor by 1. Quinton Maddock made some nice shots from the point during the game which made the Spitfires' goalie stand on his toes. Jacob Rooke played an excellent game, always working hard and setting up plays.

Our next game is December 13 against the Chiefs in St Thomas.
