Minor Atoms place in the Top 8 out of 24 Teams in Preston Tournament
Minor Atoms Play 3 Solid Games With 3 Teams Tied For 8th Spot.

In the first game the Minor Atom Lakers played the Vaughan Kings who are rated 2nd over all in Ontario. The Lakers came out and played very well against the Kings. A fast game with the Lakers keeping the score tight throughout the 3 periods of play. Noah Kuno scored for the Lakers assisted by Eric Charlebois and Tanner Hertel. The Kings had a 2-1 lead with 1:24 left in the 3rd. The Kings shortened the bench and played 2 lines in the entire 3rd period because the Lakers kept up their drive for the win. The Kings scored their 2 safety goals with seconds left on the clock. The Kings won 4-1 but the Lakers were very proud of their efforts and chances playing the Ontario # 2 team. Baily Paquette wanted this game badly and showed his amazing side to side saves post to post action. Paquette, our only goal tender this year, has matured into a fine young athlete taking on the pressure when there is no back up goaltender sometimes, a great accomplishment.

Friday night, the Lakers played the Hamilton Bulldogs who are a very good team. The Lakers came out on fire and scored 2 quick goals in the first period. Quinton Maddock scored from the point from a nice set up by Tanner Hertel back to Ben Derrough for a D to D play. Hertel and Derrough assisted on the power play goal. Will Thibeault scored the 2nd goal on a well earned play by Cody Treble and Jacob Rooke for another power play opportunity. It was 2-1 going into the 3rd period and Noah Kuno scores a short handed goal assisted by Tanner Hertel and Ben Derrough on a break out play out of the Lakers zone. It was 3-3 with 25 seconds to go and the same play came together for the 2nd time with Noah Kuno scoring the winner with Tanner Hertel and Ben Derrough assisting. Brock Baier, our AP goalie, played very well in net taking on a penalty shot and making several key saves between the pipes.

On Saturday, the Lakers played the Brantford 99er's with an exciting 3-1 win. Noah Kuno scored 2 goals assisted by Eric Charlebois and Tanner Hertel. It was 2-1 with 33 seconds to go and Will Thibeault scored on the empty net assisted by Noah Kuno as the Brantford 99er's tried to tie the game up.

The Lakers did not advance further in the tournament because the Markham Waxers beat them out on the points per period rule for the top 8 teams. The Minor Atoms showed what team work was all about in the three games. These players deserved to be on the score sheets but there is not a spot for the most important things: Work Hard, Win Battles, Communicate. These awesome players are: Bradley Kraemer, Mitchell Newson, Chad Treble, Justin Beuermann, Brennan Stapleton, Scott Chisholm, Evan Moorehead. Without these players the assists and goals would not take place. Great job boys, the coaches and the parents are very proud of you!!!!!!!!
