On Sunday, the Lakers travelled to the Gretzky Sports Complex to play the Brantford 99ers. The Lakers have had a tough start to the new year and the 99ers would serve another disappointing loss to the Lakers.
The Minor Atoms jumped to the early lead just seconds into the first period. Colton Atkins scored with assists going to Michael Boyle and Evan Dowd. The 99ers would answer with a power play goal late in the first.
The wheels came off in the second and the Lakers were unable to clear the puck from in front of the net. The 99ers would capitalize with 5 unanswered goals.
The Minor Atoms had a solid third period offensively, keeping the Brantford goalie on his toes. The Lakers pressed resulting in some great scoring opportunities by Brady Hinz, Trevor Donaldson, Kaleb Pearson and Michael Boyle. The Minor Atoms defensively limited the shooting to the outside and kept the 99ers off the scoreboard.

The Lakers strong offensive play was rewarded as Bayden Parent buried a loose puck in the net with the assist going to Colton Atkins. It would be too little too late unfortunately, and the 99ers turned out to be too strong, winning 6-2.
Back to the drawing board boys. Hopefully, this week’s practices get us back on the rode to victory.
Preston International Tournament is up next weekend.
