Major Atoms Split Weekend
The Huron Perth Lakers Major Atoms played two away games this past weekend, one in Kitchener and the other in Brantford.

Huron Perth Lakers 1 vs Kitchener Jr Rangers 3

The puck dropped and the boys had a hard time generating any offense.  Huron Perth couldn’t make anything happen and only got one shot off in the first period. The Atoms would gradually increase their level of play and start to compete. It would be the Lakers who would be first on the scoreboard with a powerplay goal around the halfway mark of the second period. A great pass to the slot and a wrist shot stop shelf by the Lakers would unfortunately be answered with two goals by the Rangers.

The rest of the third period saw Huron Perth carrying the play to the Rangers. With a minute left in the game, the Lakers pulled their goalie in an attempt to tie the game.  Getting free with the puck in the neutral, it would be the Rangers scoring on the empty net and securing the 3-1 win over the Lakers.

Huron Perth Lakers 5 vs Brantford 99ers 2

The puck dropped in Brantford and the boys were on their game. There were no passengers in this game with each player working hard and each player committed to team play. A questionable goal by Brantford early in the game would not slow the Lakers' momentum. The Atoms crisp passes and attack on the rebounds resulted in various (& numerous) scoring opportunities on Brantford goalie. The Laker defense were key offensively as they scored the first goal and contributed with assists on each of the other goals.

Great offensive efforts on the rest of the goals with a hat trick and an impressive drive inside the blue line rounded off the Lakers' scoring. The defense did an awesome job of keeping them on the outside and limiting shots on our goalie. All of the players on the ice did their part and the Major Atoms would take the 5-2 victory.
