PeeWees Capture 3 of 4 Weekend Points
This past weekend, the 99 Laker PeeWees tied Hamilton 0-0 on Laker Day and defeated Elgin-Middlesex 6-1 on Sunday Oct 16 to secure 3 points out of 4.
On Saturday, the Lakers met East Division rival Hamilton for the 1st time this season. Last time these teams met, the Lakers defeated the Reps in a game #5 playoff thriller.
The game turned out to be a dull affair with both teams playing a cautious, offensive game. Chances were minimized by strong defensive play, a characteristic of most games played by these teams. Bailey Paquette was solid in net, gaining the shut-out by stopping all 20 shots faced. The Lakers managed to record 13 shots on the Reps goalie.
Both teams were 0 for 3 on the powerplay.
On Sunday at the new Komoka Recreation Center, the Lakers found their scoring prowess and delivered one of their better offensive efforts of the year. The Lakers scored on 6 of 17 shots and gave up 16 shots against. Brock Baier made some key saves early in the 2nd and the offence racked up 4 power play goals from 9 chances. The penalty killing units continued their exceptional play, going a perfect 5 for 5. Scoring was as follows:
1st period - Mitchel Deelstra from Kade Landry.
2nd period - Tanner Hertel from Wil Thibeault.
2nd period - Ben Derrough unassisted.
2nd period - Ashton Stockie from Thibeault.
3rd period - Derrough from Brett Denny and Noah Kuno.
3rd period - Tanner Johnson from Kuno and Derrough.
This upcoming weekend, the Lakers play Brantford on Friday in Stratford and then travel south to play Sun County and Windsor.
