Major Atom Lakers Undefeated in 6
Written by Chris Holloway

The HP Laker Major Atoms had a tie and a win over the weekend to run their undefeated streak to 6 games.  On Saturday in Milverton the boys finished off their preseason schedule with a 2-2 tie against Grey-Bruce. The Highlanders got on the board first capitalizing on a failed pinch and ensuing odd-man rush. However, Camden Daigle would tie the score on a wrap-around just a few minutes later assisted by Cole Melady.

The 2nd period was a back and forth affair as the Lakers dealt with the pesky and aggressive Grey-Bruce forwards. The HP side went up 2-1 midway through the period after Logan Harmer chipped the puck out of the zone to Patrick Holloway who fed Izac Blum near center. Blummer stepped over the blue line and rifled a shot past the screened Highlander 'tender.

That was all the Lakers could muster as a sensational goaltending display ensued from Ryan Wheeler of Grey-Bruce. Fortunately for the Visitors he kept his team in the game just long enough for them to score the tying goal late in the 3rd.

Kyle Powers was also strong for the Lakers as the game slowed down a little for him but he was sharp when he had to be. The tie ended the Major Atom preseason with a 4-2-1 record.

Sunday in Zurich the Laker Lads had their first regular season game which was a 2-0 shutout victory over Lambton. The entire game was a penalty filled affair with limited flow for either team. Jackson McLlwain from the blue-paint from Brady Ballantyne and Sammy Sedley opened the scoring on the PP for the home side. Then Holloway off a goal mouth scramble found the loose puck and buried it early in the 2nd frame. Assists to Blummer and Harmer.

That was all the hosts would need as the game slowed down as the penalty parade continued. Powers earned the shutout, even stopping a penalty shot late in the game. The entire Laker D was phenomenal limiting the effectiveness of the Sting PP in their own end and the neutral zone. A great start to a busy week as the Lakers prepare for the London Earlybird Tournament next weekend.
