Lakers knock off East Division Leaders
With 4 games before Christmas, the Festival Inn Bantam Lakers are making a push for top spot. Knocking off the current East Division leaders, Brantford on Saturday was a step in the right direction.

It was apparent from the drop of the puck the Lakers were a determined bunch & a pair of goals by Derek Cowing (Embro) & single by Calvin Penney (St Marys) put the Lakers up 3-1 going into the final period. Garrett Meurs (Ripley) extended that lead to 3 goals midway through the 3rd period & with an outstanding performance being turned in by goaltender Brett O’Drowsky (St Marys), the team was feeling very confident. But heading into the last 5 minutes the Lakers momentum seemed to stall allowing Brantford to score and pull within 2. With the pressure on & the Visitors goaltender on the bench for the extra attacker, Brantford potted another late marker to make it a 1 goal game.

As the buzzer sounded, the Lakers were breathing a little easier knowing they had captured a 4-3 victory and an important 2 points. With the win, the Lakers climb to within 3 points of top spot. Next game is Thursday night in Kitchener @ 8pm
