Minor Atoms Earn a Point from the First Place Cambridge Hawks
After a humiliating 9-2 loss to the Hawks a week ago, the Minor Atom boys played 1 of their best games Friday night against the Cambridge Hawks earning a point in a 2-2 tie.

Right out of the gate the Lakers were playing hard, hussling in the corners, back-checking, giving the Hawks all they could handle. After 10 minutes of play, the Lakers had several great scoring chances but at the 5:09 mark the Cambridge boys would catch a break and score first and take a 1-0 lead after the 1st period.

Finally at 13:07 of the 2nd, Kyle Stanbury picked the top corner to tie the game at 1 after Maxim Mulder made a nice pass ahead sending Kyle in all alone. Back and forth this match would go with great goaltending at both ends. Then with 6 minutes left in the 2nd, the Hawks would take a 2-1 lead into the 3rd period.

The 3rd period was just the same, great work by all defencemen, forwards and between the pipes by Bobby Mclachlan. Finally, with the Lakers looking to pull the goalie for the extra attacker, at 1:46 Carter McLlwain, with Joseph Serpa creating a loose puck in the crease, Carter slid the puck in to tie the game while Joseph picked up the assist. That's how the game would end in a 2-2 tie and grabbing a point from the 1st place team in our division was huge, giving the boys some extra confidence which they deserve.

We will see Waterloo this weekend and then Cambridge again to finish off the schedule before Christmas!
