Minor Midgets Start New Year with a Win
The Lakers started 2012 in the win column with a victory over the Waterloo Wolves. With each game crucial going in to the stretch run, the Lakers needed a win to keep their hopes alive to finish on top of the Alliance East Division.

On January 2nd, the Minor Midgets traveled to Waterloo to take on the 3rd place Wolves. The Lakers were short staffed for the game with four regulars out. Two players from Major Bantam were called up for this one. The Lakers opened the scoring in the first period when defenseman Jake Lapointe hammered a beautiful low shot from the point. The shot beat the goalie on the blocker side giving the Lakers a 1 – 0 lead. Assist on the goal going to Adam Zehr. The Wolves tied the game in the second period on a pass out front that a Waterloo player swatted between the legs of Daniel Dekoning. The period ended with a score of 1 – 1. Carter Stewart scored the game winner in third period on a blast from the point that caught the far corner of the net. It was Stewwy’s first goal of the year and could not have come at a better time. Assist on the goal going to Jared Weishar. The Lakers hung on for the last few minutes of the game with Dekoning making some big saves with the Waterloo goalie pulled. Final score, 2 – 1 Lakers. Waterloo outshot the Lakers 31 – 23 in the game.

The win puts the Lakers one point up on the Cambridge Hawks with both teams having two games remaining. The Lakers face the Hawks at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday January 7th at the
