Minor PeeWee Lakers take 7 of 8 points past 2 weekends
The Huron Perth Minor PeeWee Lakers have taken 7 out of a possible 8 points the past 2 weekends.  On Sunday Oct. 7, 12 at the Allman in Stratford, the Lakers handily defeated the Brantford 99ers 7-2.  On Saturday Oct. 6, 12 in St. Mary’s, the Lakers put away the Waterloo Wolves 7-4.   In Brantford on Sunday Sept. 30th, the Lakers defeated the 99ers 6-2 while in St. Mary’s on Saturday Sept. 29th, the Lakers came back from a 4-1 deficit to tie the Chatham Cyclones 4-4.

In Stratford on the 7th, the Lakers took advantage of an undisciplined effort from the 99ers in scoring 6 powerplay goals to defeat the 99ers 7-2.  Braeden Burdett opened the scoring by blasting a low shot past the Brantford goalie after being set up by Carter McLlwain and Joshua Zelek.   Brantford tied the score but Eric Vander Eyk  blew one past the 99er goalie, assists going to Joel Denotter and Shawn Barnett.    McLlwain slapped a shot from the point after being fed by Zelek and goalie Zach Hall.    Vander Eyk popped another unassisted.   Maxim Mulder connected from the rebound of a Zelek slap shot who was set up by Vander Eyk.    Tyson Hall put away a post rebound by Vander Eyk to make the score 6-1.  Brantford added another before Hall scored again from Burdett and Mulder.  Goalie Zach Hall had a strong game.

In St. Marys on the 6th, Waterloo and the Lakers battled to a 0-0 tie after 1 period before the floodgates opened.  The Lakers got on the board first when Sam Dupuis put away the puck in tight after being set up by Burdett and Kyle Stanbury.  Shortly after Waterloo tied it 1-1, Hall buried a pass from Dupuis to put the Lakers up 2-1.  Stanbury scored unassisted to make it 3-1 after which Waterloo made it a one goal game again 3-2.    Before the 2nd period ended,  Burdett found Zelek who walked in alone from the blueline and roofed a shot (Jake Weston also assisted) to end the 2nd period 4-2 for the Lakers.  Three more goals by the Lakers, the first one from Vander Eyk after being set up by Zelek, the second from Vander Eyk unassisted after stealing the puck from the defender and the last from Dupuis after being set up by Hall put the Lakers up 7-2.  The Lakers gave up 2 late goals before claiming victory.  Goalie Owen Hahn came up big when needed.

In Brantford on the 30th,  opened up a 3-0 lead in the first, the first coming from Vander Eyk (assisted by Zach Dow and Reid Campbell), the second from Zelek (assisted by Dupuis) and the third by Dupuis (from Zelek and Stanbury) before Brantford scored, to end the first 3-1 for the Lakers.  The only second period goal came from Dupuis (assists going to Hall and McLlwain).  The Lakers added 2 more goals in the third, one from Luke Venhuizen, a shot from centre ice and another from Vander Eyk before Brantford added another (both goals were unassisted).  Goalie Hall was solid in the pipes.

In St. Marys on the 29th, the Lakers were flat as a pancake for 2 periods, falling behind 4-1 before the end of the 2nd period.  The only goal the Lakers managed was McLlwain’s goal from Dupuis.  Vander Eyk started the comeback unassisted before Hall popped one in from McLlwain and Dupuis.  Stanbury completed the comeback after being set up by Burdett.  The Lakers had numerous chances to defeat the Cyclones but their goalie stopped them cold.  Goalie Hahn gave the Lakers a chance to come back.
