HPL tie Windsor, then beat Sun County

The Huron Perth Minor Bantams collected 3 out of a possible 4 points on their annual Windsor-Sun County road weekend.  Saturday night in Windsor, true to form, the Lakers and Spitfires played a tight game which resulted in a 3-3 tie.  Windsor started quickly scoring on the powerplay just 3 minutes into the game.  Will Thibeault would be rewarded on a great shift as he scored to tie it up, assisted by Jacob Rooke.  After Windsor took a 2-1 lead midway through the 2nd, Scott Stovel banged in a loose puck at the side of the net to tie it back up.  Tanner Hertel and Ben Derrough assisted.  Just under 2 minutes later, Mitchel Deelstra would put the Lakers up 3-2, heading into the 3rd period.  Rhys Vollmer and Tanner Johnson assisted on Deelstra's goal.  Windsor would tie the game up just 4 minutes into the third scoring a shorthanded marker.  Despite outshooting the Spitfires 27-11, the Lakers could not score the game winner.  Both teams took 12 minutes in penalties.

Sunday in Essex, the Lakers rode the shutout goaltending of Brock Baier, and beat the Sun County Panthers by the score of 1-0.  The HPL held the advantage in shots by a 23-17 margin.  Stovel's aggresive play created many chances throughout, as he was stopped on a breakaway, and had a goal disallowed.   Deelstra would score the only goal of the game, banking the puck off of the goalie's skate, with 10 minutes left in the game.  Vollmer assisted on the goal.  The Lakers would hold off a strong attack in the dying minutes, as the Panthers played the last 3 minutes with the man advantage.  Baier made some great saves to preserve the win, and the entire team sacrificed their body in blocking some great scoring opportunities.  The win came at a price, as Logan Kellington, a physical force for the Lakers, was injured during the game.
