Minor Atom In Tough Against Sting
This past weekend saw the Minor Atom Lakers start the Alliance Playoff finals against the Lambton Sting.

Game 1 saw both teams come off a long layoff after the March break and the first period was a feeling out process.

Lambton took an early 1-0 lead before Harmer tied it with a beauty wrister to the top of the net. Assists on the Harmer goal went to Visneskie and Coward.

In the second the Sting fired a couple shots from the point that got tipped point blank in front of Boersma which put the Sting up 3-1.

In the third the Lakers continued to battle and cut the score to one when Harmer scored his second of the contest with assists to Marshall and Olmstead. However that was as close as the Lakers would get as the Sting scored three more in the final frame for a 6-2 win.

In Game 2 the Minor Atom Lakers we are used to seeing showed up. The defence played aggressive and made some great outlet passes and the forwards drove the net time and time again.

The Sting took a 1-0 lead halfway through the first before Olmstead battled for position out front and banged one in. Assists on the Olmstead goal went to Marshall and Harmer. The second period was more of the same as the Lakers skated with the Sting stride for stride and each team traded goals sending the game into the third tied at two. The second Lakers goal was scored by Harmer who took a long stretch pass from Coward and buried a high shot over the Sting goalie.

In the third the tight game became a shoot out at the OK Corral. The Sting took advantage of some Laker penalty trouble scoring three goals for a 5-2 lead. Olmstead cut the lead to two after scoring his second of the game burying a one timer in front of the net on a feed from Harmer. The Sting responded quickly regaining the three goal lead but the Lakers would not quit.

With less than five minutes remaining Barch drove the net and fired one in after Harmer found him on the back post. Shortly after the Sting took a penalty after some hard forechecking of the Lakers.

Coaches then pulled Bree for the extra attacker going 6 on 4. Wow did the boys move the puck well on the power play. They moved the puck around the box of the Sting when Fraser fired a cross crease pass to Marshall who fired it home cutting the Sting lead to one. Visneskie picked up the second assist on the Marshall goal.

The Lakers won the centre ice face off and again pulled Bree for the extra skater but it was too little too late as the Sting held on for the 6-5 win. The never say die attitude of the Lakers was nice to see and will only assist them moving forward to Game 3 in Sarnia this coming Saturday.
