Minor Atom Lakers Prove They Can Play With The Best of Them!
Friday night in Hensall was just a warm up for what was to come the rest of the weekend.

The game vs Lambton Sting saw a lot of individual efforts by the Lakers team. Even though we scored 1st as Maxim Mulder was sent in by Braeden Burdett and put a back hander by the Sting goalie this seemed to spark the Sting as they would answer back with 4 goals in the 1st period. The boys were trying hard to get back into this match but failed to do so and found themselves down 5-1 after 2. Again in the third they had several opportunities with players out front but the passes were no where to be found. Finally at 4:40 of the 3rd, Cody Renwick shot the puck in deep and Reid Campbell picked it up behind the net and made a nice "PASS" out front to Jake Weston who scored the Lakers' 2nd goal of the game. The Sting would add 2 more in the last 3 minutes to take this game 7-2. Bobby Mclachlan did what he could between the pipes for this one.

On Saturday the boys travelled to Hamilton where we saw a different Lakers team. Working hard all game, the boys had a couple turn-overs that Hamilton capitalized on in the 1st. Back and forth this game went as the boys started to pass a little more and created chances but couldn't buy a goal. Finally in the 3rd, down 3-0 Braeden Burdett picked up the puck in the corner and made a nice pass out front to Joshua Zelek who found the back of the net to put the Lakers on the board. That would be all for this one as the final score was 3-1. Owen Hahn kept the Lakers in this game with some beauty saves.

On Sunday the Lakers faced the 1st place team overall, the London Jr. Knights. I think the boys surprised themselves in this game knowing full well going in that London gave us a couple of whoopens! earlier in the year. It didn't look good early as by the 7 minute mark of the first London would have a 2-0 lead. At 5:39, Jake Weston cleared the puck around the boards to Maxim Mulder who made a pass up to Carter McLlwain who then went in alone scoring top corner on a nice "wrist shot". Two minutes later, Carter McLlwain would make his way in all alone again scoring top shelf again with a nice "wrist shot" unassisted. Before the 1st was over Braeden Burdett picked the corner to give the Lakers a 3-2 lead after 1, assisted by Jake Weston. By the end of the 2nd  London had tied the match at 3. This game saw some nice passes and attempts by the Lakers, giving them a chance, but they couldn't buy one in the third until, with :28 seconds left, Carter McLlwain would get his 3rd for the hat trick (unassisted) but that would be all as this match ended with the Lakers a goal short: 5-4. London scored 2 pp goals in this one. Have to stay out of the penalty box boys! Bobby McLachlan played a great game giving the boys a chance almost getting a point from the 1st place team.

The boys now head to Rochester NY this weekend for their final tournament of the season.
