2014 Lakers Division Champions at AAA Buffalo Cup!!!!
The 2014 Huron Perth Lakers travelled across the border this weekend to compete in the AAA Buffalo Cup, the largest AAA tournament in North America.
In the round robin the Lakers went undefeated with wins against the Whitby Wildcats, Niagara North, Wolfpack Hockey Club and a hard fought 2-2 tie against the Boston Americans. The young Lakers would finish with 7 points and find themselves at the top of the 2014 Hawerchuk Division. Of the 35 teams comprised of many of the top teams from across the United States and Ontario, the team would finish in the 7th seed, an accomplishment everyone was extremely proud of. Key team stats included scoring 19 goals for vs only 4 against and picking up two shutouts.
The quarterfinals were set for Sunday with the Lakers set to square off against the Massachusetts Islanders Hockey Club, currently ranked 2nd in the United States. Unfortunately for all teams remaining in the event, Mother Nature had other plans and brought a massive blizzard to area shutting down travel and ultimately forcing the tournament to be cancelled. We'll never know how things would have turned out but based on what we had witnessed all weekend these young players would have given it everything they had!!
Overall it was a wonderful experience for the kids with 3 outdoor games, a sticker trading contest, Buffalo Sabres game, seeing hockey social media stars Pavel Barber and Brady Films and spending time bonding with teammates at the hotel.
