You win some....you lose some
The Minor Peewee Lakers have been busy practicing, working hard as a TEAM, improving their skill and knowledge base of the game they are all so passionate about. The Lakers have been able to put their strategies into play in an away series last weekend in the south, then 2 games closer to home this past weekend.

October 21, 2011:  Lakers vs. London Jr. Knights, final score 4-1 Knights
October 22, 2011:  Lakers vs. Sun County Panthers, final score 3-1 Panthers
October 23, 2011:  Lakers vs. Windsor Jr. Spitfire, final score 5-3 Lakers
October 29, 2011:  Lakers vs. Brantford 99’ers, final score 2-1 Brantford 99’ers
October 30, 2011:  Lakers vs. Hamilton Reps, final score 4-3 Lakers

On October 21, 2011 the Minor Peewee Lakers traveled to London to face the London Jr. Knights, surrendering to a 4-1 defeat.  Despite the Lakers scoring first they were not able to answer back any of the 4 following goals by the Knights, giving the Knights their first regular season win.

The Lakers continued to travel south heading for Essex County where they battled the Panthers on October 22, 2011. Unfortunately, the Lakers saw the same fate being defeated 3-1.

The Lakers were able to pick up the pace on Sunday before heading home after a long weekend, having their only win of the weekend 5-3. The Lakers were determined to pull out all stops in the last game of the weekend, coming out on fire! The Lakers had a convincing 4-0 lead ahead of the Spitfires at the beginning of the third period. The Spitfires were able to net their first goal, which was answered back within a minute by the Lakers. The Spitfires were able to net 2 additional unanswered goals before the buzzer, giving the Lakers the win 5-3.

The following weekend, the Lakers began their weekend of hockey on the road again, playing in the new Gretzky arena in Brantford. After a scoreless first period, the 99’ers first lit up the scoreboard. The Lakers would tie things up 4 minutes later. However, the 99’ers were able to capitalize on a power play to take the lead with seconds left in the 2nd period. Despite end to end play, an empty Laker net in the last minutes of play and outplaying the 99’ers the Lakers were not able to find the back of the twine to tie the game. Final score 2-1 99’ers.

On Sunday, October 30, 2011 the Lakers hosted the Hamilton Reps for the first time in regular season in what proved to be an exciting game of hockey! The Reps scored within the first minute of play… waking the Lakers up! The Lakers retaliated before the end of the first period, leaving the game tied at the end of the first. The Lakers would net three additional unanswered goals in the second, taking a commanding 4-1 lead. However, overconfidence would find the Lakers scrambling as the Reps would score 2 goals of their own late in the second period, closing the gap. The Lakers must all have being wearing horseshoes (you know where) as the Lakers were down a man with a Laker in the box. The Reps pulled their goalie in attempt to capitalize on the Lakers difficult situation. The Reps did manage to score with a minute left in the game, however the goal was called off due to a high stick! Whewww! The Lakers would narrowly pull out the win.

The Minor Peewees now have a few days rest, gearing up for two home games next weekend.
