Minor PeeWees Take 4 Points for the Weekend
The Minor PeeWee team was busy traveling southwestern Ontario with 2 away games this past week...out hustling their competitors.

November 12, 2011:  Win 3-2 over Hamilton Reps
November 13, 2011:  Win 5-3 over Chatham-Kent Cyclones

In Hamilton, the Minor PeeWee team was determined to continue to show the Reps their strength, skill and determination for the win.  Having defeated the Reps twice before (once in a tournament and again in regular season) the game was sure to be yet another close battle.  After a scoreless first period, the Reps lit up the score board at 12:32 on the clock in the second period.  After a shot from the point, then a goal-mouth scramble the Lakers were able to tie the score 1-1.  With only seconds left on the clock in the second period and with a man in the box the forwards were able to grind the puck out of the Lakers zone and with a quick look to see the open teammate, a bullet was shot, bar-down for the go-ahead goal.  Within minutes of the third period the Lakers were able to show their deking and quick thinking to bury yet another goal.  Two minutes later the Reps would close the gap.  The Lakers continued to play defensively for the remainder of the game.  With just over a minute left in the game the Reps would take their chances and pull their netminder.  However the Reps would not be able to find the back of the twine of the Lakers net given the skill and quick reflexes of the Lakers goaltender....nor could the Lakers hit an open net.  The Lakers would secure the win 3-2.

In Chatham, the Cyclones turned the Lakers upside down, as the Lakers faced a much stronger and disciplined team compared to the previous month.  Again the Lakers would find themselves in a deficit situation and down a goal half way through the first period.  With just over 5 minutes left in the first period, from the hashmarks the Lakers would pass the puck out to the open man in the Cyclones corner who would then pass the puck in front of the Cyclones goaltender.  With quick thinking and a dive across the net the Lakers were able to tip the puck into the Cyclones net to tie the game.  The Cyclones would retaliate with two answered goals to then end the second period, leaving the Lakers down 3-1.  With that continued strength and determination for the win, the Lakers would find the back of the Cyclones twine 3 additional times.  To secure the win the Lakers would capitalize on the Cyclones empty net:  final score 5-3 Lakers.

Scoring for the weekend were:  (2) Pearson, (2) Gilhula, Gibbings, Dowd, Hinz, and Atkins
Assists for the weekend were awarded to:  (2) Pearson, Buchanan, Gilhula, Hinz, Amos, and Parent

The Minor PeeWee team is off in tournament play for back to back tournaments in the upcoming weekends.

Keep up the hard work Lakers.
