Big Birthday Gift for Coach Rolph
On Thursday, December 1, 2011 the Minor Peewee Lakers had the opportunity to face the Cambridge Hawks for the third time in less than a week.  After suffering defeat twice in the Blueline Kitchener Tournament the previous weekend, the Minor Peewee Lakers prevailed with a nail biting 5-4 win.

The Lakers hosted the Hawks after a long two weeks on the road with back to back tournaments.  Having faced the Hawks twice the previous weekend and losing 1-0 to the Hawks in the gold medal game the Lakers came out strong and were ready to play a clean game of hockey Thursday night.

The Lakers first lit up the score board half way through the first period in a goal mouth scramble.  After the puck was passed out from along the boards, then hit the crossbar, the Lakers were able to knock the puck down and bury it in the Hawks net.  Unfortunately, 2 minutes later that Hawks managed to put the puck up over the netminder's shoulder, making it a goal-a-piece at the end of the first.

The Lakers would manage to net 2 goals early in the second, boosting their confidence that they could defeat the Hawks.  The Hawks however retaliated with 1 additional goal in the second.  The Hawks would score two additional quick goals late in the third, taking the go-ahead lead with less than 4 minutes in play.
With just over 1 minute left on the clock, the Lakers would find the back of the Hawks twine....tying the game up!
With some fancy footwork, speed and agility, the Lakers managed to grind the puck out from the boards sending the puck down the ice and a breakaway was in motion.....however the Hawks in desperation would trip the Lakers, allowing for a penalty shot with 43 seconds remaining on the clock.

With one skater and one goalie on the ice, the Lakers would patiently and skillfully play with the Hawks netminder. After what seemed like hours, Laker Kaleb Pearson would deke the goalie burying the puck in the Hawks net on his back hand.  The Lakers would prevail winning 5-4!

Goals awarded to Pearson (2), Cameron Amos (2), and Colton Atkins.
Assists awarded to Evan Dowd, Max Hall, Pearson, Owen Gilhula, Trent Buchanan, Eric Rolph...and honourable mention to netminder Riley Deline on his assist and again the the use of his golden glove!

Although the team did not present Coach Rolph with a big package or fancy ribbon, what an incredible birthday gift!  The team played a clean and fast paced game of hockey....the Lakers certainly have cause to celebrate!

Way to go Lakers...and Happy Birthday Coach Rolph!
