Sundays loss halts 9 game undefeated streak for Major Atoms
Written by Jeff Aarts
The Major Atoms hosted the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs on Sunday in Goderich and recorded their first loss in over a month. The Chiefs struck first in the game only to have Zac McCann tie it up only two minutes later (assisted by Blake Wideman). Two and a half minutes later the Chiefs would take the lead again to end a fairly evenly matched first period. The teams remained tight through most of the second period until the Lakers got themselves into penalty trouble late in the frame.
With 3 players in the box, their opponents struck for 2 powerplay goals to put the Lakers down by 3 going into the final period. After the Chiefs added another, Blake Wideman tried to get things going late in the game with a goal from McCann and Tyler Hotson. Elgin-Middlesex would add another 2 late however to take the game 7-2. The Lakers look to rebound as they head into a three game weekend coming up.
