Major Atoms Look to Rebound after Tough Weekend
Written by Jeff Aarts

With the Lakers line-up tattered by "the bug" , the Lakers hosted The Brantford 99ers in Milverton on Thursday with a couple skaters missing and a couple more on the down and out. The Lakers found themselves down by 3-0 until midway thru the second when Kaden Hoggarth scored a shorthanded goal from Tate Gaylor to put the home team on the board. Kayden Schooley would then score 3 minutes later (from Sheldon Pryce and Blake Wideman) to put the Lakers within a goal. Brantford would get another 2, but each time the Lakers would respond to keep them within one.

Bobby Leis would notch an unassisted marker, and Zachary Teale would add another (from Hoggarth and Gaylor). The Lakers would then complete the comeback late in the third as Pryce would tie things up at 5 on a goal assisted by Schooley and Jack Robinson.
On Friday night the Major Atoms, down another 2 players from the night before due to illness, played host to the London Jr. Knights. Calling up Luke Gaylor and Tanner Dietz from the Minor Atom Lakers team. The Lakers got out to the lead first on a goal from Blake Wideman unassisted. The Lakers would hold the lead until late in the second when the Knights would score two quick ones to take the lead. They would add another early in the third to go up 3-1. With 5 minutes left in the game the Lakers would try to get back in this one as call up Dietz would roof one over the shoulder of the London netminder on a feed from Schooley. London would foil the comeback with an empty net goal to take this one 4-2.
On Sunday the Lakers traveled to Sarnia to take on the Lambton Jr Sting. The Lakers could not find their feet this day and found themselves down to the hard working Sting 2-0. A goal by Mason Weber from Zachary Teale late in the second brought some life back into the Lakers, but the Lambton goalie would close the door after that. Another Lambton goal midway thru the third would put this one away 3-1.
